It’s really
sad that in this time-poor and busy
world we seem to have difficulty in
finding the space to communicate as much
as would like, even with our closest
family and friends. From a professional
carer’s perspective it is not easy to
stay in touch, be aware and alert about
what is happening to those you are
responsible for - your clients. From a
family point of view it would be nice to
have a system that linked all of the
family members no matter where they were
located.
The people most at risk are those who
already suffer in silence from long
periods of social isolation and
loneliness or who are not quite as agile
as they once were. Few of us can cope
with social isolation, for we are by
nature social animals.To date,
programs designed to keep in touch with
citizens who remain close to their homes
have been sporadic and occasional.
What we need
is a Digital Domain for all People
A digital domain not reserved just
for the young and wired but belonging to
every generation because it is the place
of information, collaboration,
communication and social networking.
It’s the place for business,
governments, education, health, finance
and everything else you can think of as
well as for each individual. |
“The
purpose of life, after all, is to live
it, to taste experience to the utmost,
to reach out eagerly and without fear
for newer and richer experiences.”
Eleanor Roosevelt

This is about taking advantage of the
revolution in new technology to overcome
distance and physical separation and to
connect loved ones
It’s why we created a concept and
program (Knowledge Community for People
- KCP) to improve this situation, based
on existing software that we already
provide to the education and workplace
sectors.
KCP, an
internet based software system, connects
all of the stakeholders inside a secure
environment. Once inside KCP, people
are able to safely and securely
collaborate and communicate with family,
friends, key carers and other community
groups, (e.g. councils, social groups).
Their personal information is secure.
The
program also uses a range of devices to
help those with a disability, perhaps
dexterity or eyesight issues, needing
input devices such as touch screens, joy
sticks, large buttons and displays as
well as the mouse and keyboard.
The system operates by the granting
of permissions (like a low key Power of
Attorney) so a resident would give
permission to their key carer and key
relative about the level of their
involvement. Alerts would also be
created based on a series of triggers (eg
key carer alerted due to the “Daily
Medication” button on the touch screen
not being activated or the PC not being
turned on).
A key relative would be able to view
transactions and activities (subject to
the permissions level).
Most
importantly the resident at the centre
of this activity would be able to
connect to relatives and friends for a
chat, discussion, view a child’s result
or video, make contact with associations
(eg Senior Citizens groups, Disability
Associations) and stay in touch.
Carers would be able to remotely monitor
and assist people under their care.

“Perhaps
by using a system like KCP we can
reverse the feelings of isolation by
allowing people to connect with their
loved ones and the community anytime,
anywhere”
